THE sixth issue of Espasyo Journal is now accepting articles and papers for the peer-reviewed publication created under the guidance of the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Together with the History, Theory and Criticism Studio Laboratory of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Architecture, as well as the UP Foundation for the Built Environment Inc., the journal promotes the publication of architectural design research, focusing on project-based design research and associated discourses on Filipino spatial design.
The editors are looking for original scholarly essays, both text-based and design-based, and welcome contributions related to a range of issues, which include but are not limited to design history, theory and criticism, teaching and pedagogy, design process and methods, building and material science, environment and behavior, visual communication, design computing and cognition, urban design and community architecture, and environmental technology.
The journal will consider for publication both written articles and design works, built and un-built. Contributions may be design research papers that demonstrate development and engagement with architecture history, theory, education and practice through critique and synthesis.
The focus is on the documentation and critical review of both speculative research and practice-based research, with words not exceeding to 7,500. They can also be refereed studios that represent the nature and outcomes of design studios, which have either been previously peer-reviewed on site and/or critically discussed through text and imagery.
Also accepted are project reviews that critically evaluate design-based works, which seek to expand the nature of spatial and theoretical practice in architecture and allied design disciplines with 1,000 to 1,200 words. It can be a book, exhibition, and multimedia reviews that encourage debate into the emerging literature dedicated to the expression and expansion of the theory and practice of architecture and spatial design.
Espasyo also accepts commentary that gives opportunity to readers to express their views on various issues regarding architecture and the allied arts in the form of an opinion column, with more than 500 words.
Interested writers and/or contributors should notify the Espasyo editor through email and send their proposed article title and abstract on or before September 6 to espasyojournal@gmail.com. The target release date of the publication is February 2015, coinciding with the Philippine Arts Month.
