In January, the first Sentro Rizal Film Festival (SRFF) was held at the Asok Motri Music and Performing Arts Hall at the Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok Thailand.

SRFF screened three award winning films starting with Ida Anita del Mundo’s K’na The Dreamweaver, which took on the lives and the art of the T’nalak weavers of the T’boli group of the southern Philippines. Audience also relived the lives of two of the renowned Filipino heroes with Enzo Williams’ Bonifacio Ang Unang Pangulo and Jerrold Tarog’s Heneral Luna.

With the aim to promote awareness about Philippine history and culture among Thai and Filipino students and other nationals in Bangkok, SRFF gathered over 450 guests, students, academics and professionals joined the first ever SRFF in Bangkok.

After the screening, an open forum ensued where the audience was encouraged to share their insights and technical comments on the films.

In attendance are Vice Consul Jay Alcantara of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, Director Sopin Chantakloi of Srinakharinwirot University and Danica Bianca Patungan of Artikulo Uno, the production suite for Heneral Luna.

SRFF was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Bangkok in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts-Sentro Rizal and the Srinakharinwirot University.

After the pilot SRFF in Bangkok, one of the three films, Heneral Luna, is also set to screen at the Bulwagang Bagumbayan, Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, China today.

This is part of the continuing efforts of the NCCA Sentro Rizal to promote Philippine language, arts and culture around the world.
