A watercolor painting by the artist
Salvador “Dodong” Arellano, a Filipino artist best known for paintings of thoroughbred racehorses and gamefowl, will hold a solo exhibit August 29 at the Gallery Liencio at the Serendra at Bonifacio Global City.
Equine and Gamefowl Art will be Arellano’s first public exhibit in the Philippines since he left the country for Los Angeles in 1987. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Leon Gallery.
The son of the late architect/painter Juan M. Arellano, Salvador is also an accomplished portraitist who has done commissions for, among others, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Prince Charles, Sultan Bolkiah of Brunei, actor Sylvester Stallone and other Hollywood personalities.
Granted US permanent residence “by virtue of his exceptional ability in the art of painting,” Arellano has exhibited at the Christie’s and Dyansen Galleries.
Some of his works are also permanently on exhibit at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center where he is Resident Artist and at the Empire Polo Club where he is Official Artist.
There have also been exhibitions of his paintings at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club and at the Del Mar, Hollywood Park and Santa Anita Park racetrack function rooms.
Since the early 1980s his works have been exhibited also in Japan, Singapore, Australia and Dubai. In these exhibitions prominent international collectors, including those from Manila, have acquired his paintings.
He has thrice served as sole judge in the Watercolor Category of the annual art show sponsored by the city government of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.
