10th Mindanao Film Fest ongoing

mindanao20141207Adjani Arumpac’s War is a Tender Thing, a film about the war-torn Zamboanga after the siege in 2013 while trying to recover, opened the 10th Mindanao Film Festival (MFF) on December 2.

With the theme Celebrating regional imagination, MFF is shown at the Gaisano Mall Cinema 6 until December 9.

Along with Arumpac’s piece, MFF screens a total of 68 films grouped under several clusters highlighting the prowess of directors and producers of Mindanao.

“Zamboanga Pelicula” features films with focus on Spanish heritage delivered in the Chavacano language. “Nagbabago ang Panahon” cluster screens films that take on environmental issues and climate change.

Some films were clustered according to their area of origin. “Cinema in the Valley” caters to directors from Compostella Valley; “Davao Directors’ Showcase” stages the works of Davaoeño filmmakers; “Northern Exposure” is for northern Mindanaoan works while the “Down South” is for the SOCSARGEN cluster.

“Escuela Cinema” group screens school-based films produced by students of the Philippine Women’s College of Davao, Ateneo de Davao High School, University of the Immaculate Conception and Holy Cross of Davao College participated in the event.

Documentary films are also featured and a Guerilla filmmaking competition with the use of Windows Lumia 1020 phone is held.

Cinemarehiyon Reloaded films, as part of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Cinemarehiyon project, also joined the film festival.
