Inspired by the government’s aggressive move to promote tourism, a new beauty search joins the rank of prestigious pageants in the country, this time giving importance on the need to support the country’s tourism initiatives.
Miss Global Philippines marks its entry in the beauty pageant scene with a search for that outstanding Filipina who embody the ideals of a tourism ambassadress. The newest competition is organized by the Miss Global Philippines Foundation, Inc. under the leadership of young businesswoman Pauline Laping and former beauty queen Stephany Stefanowitz.
“Tourism is a very lucrative industry and it has helped a lot of Filipinos in many ways especially those living in the countryside,” says Laping. “Through the Miss Global Philippines pageant, we hope to help our government’s initiative by staging a grand beauty event that is dedicated to promoting Philippine tourism.”
She further states that tourism and beauty pageants have always had a significant connection.
“Most beauty queens get the chance to travel to different places here and abroad. With this privilege, we thought of creating a beauty pageant that will make the eventual winners ambassadors of promoting what our country has to offer. The winner of the pageant will not only get to represent the country in an international pageant, but will also get to travel extensively as part of our adopted cause,” Laping adds.
What also sets Miss Global Philippines apart from other beauty pageants is that it welcomes both single and single moms to compete for the title. According to Stefanowitz, this move is in line with the regulations of the US-based Miss Global Organization, the group that stages the international level Miss Global pageant.
“It is also a ground breaking effort for a new beauty pageant here in the Philippines. It breaks the stereotypical notion about a beauty contest that it’s a competition for single women or in some cases for married women alone, and that singles and single moms cannot be in the same pageant. Here in Miss Global Philippines, we give equal opportunity for women who can meet our requirements,” Stefanowitz explains.
Miss Global Philippines is open to Filipino single women and single moms who have never been married, 18 to 27 years old and stands at least 5’6”. She should also have collegiate level of education, possess exceptional beauty, wit and charm, and be willing to travel.
The inaugural pageant of Miss Global Philippines is slated on August 24 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila, Pasay City. It will be aired nationwide on August 31, 10 p.m. on GMA News TV.
The winner of Miss Global Philippines will be the country’s official representative to the Miss Global pageant, which will be on December 19 on the Crown Princess cruise, which will sail from Los Angeles, California, USA to Mexico.
Miss Global Philippines is now accepting applicants for screening. Interested individuals may apply at the pageant’s secretariat, Unit 4E Symphony Tower, Sgt. Esguerra St. cor. Timog Avenue, Quezon City.
