In line with its 106th founding anniversary, Barangay Catbawan in Puntayan, Southern Leyte will mount the Layag Festival from May 21 to 22 to showcase and promote the mechanics of traditional way of fishing among the town’s fisherfolks.
Since modernization has begun, most of the fishermen use motorized boats instead of boat paddle, which is the traditional way of sailing and fishing.
The festival was created for the purpose of encouraging fisherfolks to use traditional methods of fishing for the safety of their lives and to conserve fuel in answer to today’s economic crisis.
This event is co-funded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
