Entertainment editors’ group joins the movie industry’s centennial celebrations with tribute segment at tonight’s awards ceremonies

The annual Eddys or Entertainment Editors’ Choice is devoting a special segment of its much-awaited awards ceremonies this evening to join the nation in celebrating 100 years of Philippine Cinema.

Dubbed “Parangal sa Sangdaan,” TV host-journalist Lourd de Veyra will anchor the said portion with a fascinating lookback on the beginnings of film in the country all the way to its thriving presence today as a source of internationally renowned works with that ever inimitable Filipino touch of reality, wonder and artistry.

To fittingly round up the tribute, The Eddys will honor a group of “unsung heroes” who have devoted much of their life toward the growth and progress of Philippine Cinema in various capacities whether in front or behind the movie camera. These are the very individuals whom the day’s producers, directors, actors and the rest of the country’s movie workers owe an active industry to amid the ever changing landscape of entertainment and the competition of big-budgeted foreign movies.

The honorees of Parangal sa Sangdaan are Marichu Vera Perez-Maceda, Maroth de Leon, Digna Santiago, Armida Siguion-Reyna (posthumous), Val Iglesias, Vic Delotavo, Romy Vitug, Romy Peralta, Lucy Quinto, Val Campbell, Rustica Carpio, Rosa Rosal, Tommy Abuel, Pepito Rodriguez, Perla Bautista, Lorli Villanueva, Robert Arevalo, Odette Khan and Tony Mabesa.

The Eddys is mounted by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) under its Chairman Liza Diño.

Also in store in this evening’s grand production is the society’s tribute to the illustrious career of 2018 Eddys Icon awardee and 2019 best actor nominee (“Rainbow’s Sunset”) Eddie “Manoy” Garcia.

Returning to its home at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City, The Eddys will be hosted by seasoned broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas, and will be powered by performances of such artists as Kuh Ledesma, Ice Seguerra, Aicelle Santos, Gerald Santos, Rayver Cruz, Lara Maigue, Bituin Escalante, Rita Daniela, Hashtags’ Rayt Carreon, Jem Cubil and Andrea Babierra, Sean Oliver, Both of Us (BOU), RJ dela Fuente, and Raket Manila Dancers.

Of course, the exciting highlights of the ceremony will be the announcement of winners in 11 acting and technical categories from the movies produced and commercially screened in 2018.
