Arts and nature unite on Earth Day

THE Cultural Center of the Philippines celebrated Earth Day with the theme  “Clean Air” at various venues of the complex.

Opening ceremonies were held at the CCP main ramp and front lawn featuring performances by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s Woodwind and Brass Section, Tanghalang Pilipino, Ballet Philippines and ventriloquist Wanlu.

Exhibit booths of partner institutions, dry goods and food fairs, “Live Art, Impromptu Action Art” activities, and Sinekalye (Output of the Basic Animation Workshop) were opened.

Visual artist Junyee unveiled his installation artwork entitled “Hangin ay Buhay,” consisting of 300 bamboo poles erected on the CCP Front Lawn, creating an artistic cluster of “windmills” which transformed the area into a place of wind movement.

Yoga classes were conducted by the Gentle Warriors at the CCP Main Theater Lobby as well as a “Chalk Art” activity conducted by the Philippine Art Educators Association at the CCP Lagoon Driveway Area.

The Philippine Biochar conducted a workshop on using Biochar, Bokashi Balls, Hering Agents, at the CCP Ramp followed by a Bollywood dance class conducted by the Gentle Warriors at the CCP Main Theater Lobby.

Haribon Foundation, meanwhile, conducted a guided tour on familiarization with trees at the CCP’s Liwasang Kalikasan. Sipat Lawin Ensemble did an interactive storytelling while Haribon Foundation screened the film entitled “Biodiversity on Wheels” at the CCP Promenade.

A kendo class was conducted by Gentle Warriors at the CCP Main Theater Lobby, while the Bureau of Plant Industry conducted a plant propagating and grafting workshop at the CCP Ramp.

Ventriloquist Wanlu staged his show “Wanlu, Wan Earth, Wan More Time sa CCP” at the CCP Main Ramp. The Gentle Warriors conducted an Arnis class at the CCP Main Theater Lobby as well.

Other activities during Earth Day included the distribution of free saplings and seedlings by the Bureau of Plant Industry, Kite assembly and flying workshop by the Kite Association of the Philippines, kite flying activities at the Front Lawn, Ramp and Promenade, Drone Video or Camcording at the CCP Ramp and a performance of Mga Anak ni Inang Daigdig at the CCP Ramp.

Earth Day at the CCP was held in cooperation with Haribon Foundation, Kasibulan, Philippine Art Educators Association (PAEA), Foundation for Philippine Environment, Philippine Biochar, Bureau of Plant Industry, and Kite Association of the Philippines.
