THE Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center (BNSCWC) is partnering with the University of the Philippines (UP) Press to launch The Achieve of, the Mastery: Filipino Poetry and Verse from English, mid-‘90s to 2016 at De La Salle University (DLSU) in Manila on December 5 at 4 p.m.

Edited by award-winning poets Gémino H. Abad and Mookie Katigbak-Lacuesta and published by UP Press, the two-volume The Achieve of, the Mastery, like Abad’s previous poetry anthologies Man of Earth (1989), A Native Clearing (1993) and A Habit of Shores (1999), offers a representative sample of the finest Philippine poetry in English in a given period.

The anthology features the works of 141 poets, including those by the late National Artists for Literature Edith L. Tiempo and Cirilo F. Bautista. Other poets in the anthology are Ophelia Alcantara-Dimalanta, Merlie Alunan, Jaime An Lim, Elsa Martinez Coscoluella, Isidoro Cruz, Jhoanna Lynn Cruz, Carlomar Arcangel Daoana, Ricardo M. de Ungria, Noelle Leslie dela Cruz, Marjorie M. Evasco, Christine Godinez-Ortega, Sid Gomez Hildawa, Francisco Roman Guevara, Shirley O. Lua, R. Torres Pandan, Ned Parfan, Dinah T. Roma and Alice M. Sun-Cua.

Abad is a professor emeritus of literature and creative writing at UP Diliman in Quezon City, while Katigbak-Lacuesta is an associate for poetry of the BNSCWC.

Part of the DLSU College of Liberal Arts’ celebration of its centennial, the book launch will be held at the Philippe Jones Lhuillier Conference Room on the 14th floor of the Henry Sy Sr. Hall, DLSU, Taft Avenue, Manila.
