SUNSHINE Place: Senior Recreation Center in Makati City is set to hold another memoir-writing workshop that will be facilitated by award-winning Filipino-American writer Oscar Peñaranda.
The seven-session workshop shall cover the abstraction or concreteness of things through the senses, functions of language, parts of a word, sharing, assignments, and consultations. At the end of each session, participants will write on assigned topics that include “Coming of Age,” “Courtship,” and “Characters in Your Life.” The workshop will culminate in the last session, in an activity in which each participant will present his or her writings.
Oscar Peñaranda
Peñaranda is a short-story writer and educator who won the Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas (National Disciple of Balagtas Award) for lifetime achievement—named after the 19th-century poet who penned Florante at Laura—from the Unyon ng mga Manunulat ng Pilipinas (Umpil or Writers’ Union of the Philippines). He finished AB Literature and MA Creative Writing at San Francisco State University. He helped found the San Francisco Chapter of the Filipino American Historical Society and was its first president.
Sunshine Place is a recreational hub for mature adults that offers classes in the different arts, as well as age-appropriate activities aimed at keeping their minds sharp and boosting their energy and confidence.
Workshop sessions will be held on August 20, 22, 27 and 29 and September 3, 5 and 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. Fees for the entire workshop are P3,500 for senior citizens and P4,900 for non-senior ones.
