UP’s most iconic spot, Sunken Garden, was filled with nature lovers, music enthusiasts, students, government and private sector representatives and concerned artists as it became the center of activity for this year’s celebration of Philippine Environment Month.
Various exhibits around the stage area and a wide variety of food stalls were likewise available to serve the crowd. Although it rained by noontime, the skies cleared later in the afternoon as hundred of participants joined in the symbolical human “leaf” formation to manifest this year’s global theme, “Connecting People with Nature.”
Organized by Earthday Jam Foundation headed by singer-environmentalist Lou Bonnevie, the event “A Fair With Nature,” was presented by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the University of the Philippines and Office of QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Also in attendance were UP officials, Chancellor Michael Tan and Vice Chancellor Nestor Castro, as well as DENR Assistant Secretary Mitch Cuna and Environment Management Bureau (EMB)-DENR and Chief of Environmental Education and Information Division Ellen Basug.
